Hiccups Reasons: Often while eating food, talking to someone or in the middle of an office meeting, hiccups suddenly start. If it comes once or twice, it brings a laugh, but when it shows no sign of stopping, it starts causing irritation. In older time, it was said that when someone remembers you, then hiccups come. However looking from the perspective of science, its reasons is not someones memory but a small disturbance occurring inside our body.

Why do hiccups occur?
Let us tell you that between our stomach and chest there is a broad muscle, whicj is called the diaphragm. When we breathe in it goes downward and while breahing out, it comes back to its place. When a sudden jerk or spasm occurs in the diaphragm air gets pulled inside the throat very rapidly. During this time the vocal cords present in the throat suddenly close, due to which the characteristic sound of a hiccup comes out.

Why does this movement occur in the diaphragm?
Eating food in a hurry
Eating spicy and pungent food
Drinking cold drinks or soda
Sudden change in temperature (drinking ice water immediately after coming from sunlight or drinking cold water after hot tea)
Laughing or Stress
