Often, when red spots or rashes appear on our skin, we think that is might be due to an allergy from some food item or a topical cream. But if this same trouble persists continuously for weeks and months, it can be a condition much more serious than a common allergy. Dermatologists call it Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU), which is a long lasting skin disease. It is important to recognize it in time so that proper treatment can be started.
Symptoms of CSU
The biggest identifier of this disease is the rashes that appear on the skin. These can be red or the color of your normal skin and they itch intensely. The special thing about it is that one rash disappears within a few hours, but a new rash pops up on some other part of the body. If this issue persists for more than six weeks, you should consult a dermatologist immediately. Usually the itching bothers more during the night compared to the day due to which patients sleep is broken and heavy fatigue is felt the nexy day.
Survey conducted on CSU patients
Recently a survey conducted of CSU patients revealed that 62 percent of people faced sleep related problems during the disease, while about 49 percent of people complained of severe fatigue.
When should you be cautious
In Some patients swelling also occurs deep within the skin, which is called angioedema. This is usually seen on the lips, eyelids, hands and feet. This swelling can sometimes appear along with rashes or even alone. If the swelling occurs repeatedly a specialist should be consulted. At the same time if there is difficulty in breathing or swallowing. or if swelling is felt in the tongue and throat without any delay, immediately reach the hospital emergency ward.
Impact on Mental Health
Apart form this due to the frequent apperance of rashes and swelling a lack of confidence and a bad impact on social life start happening among people. There is a constant worry that itching or rashes might start again in front of people, due to which the problem of stress and depression also starts increasing.
Do not become your own doctor
In this disease, often a specific cause is not identified. Therefore, considering any one thing as the culprit and taking or stopping medicines on your own is not right.
